Wildlife conservation efforts reported in Argentina and Colombia
In Río Colorado, Argentina, the Rural Brigade and Fauna authorities rescued an endangered yellow cardinal (Gubernatrix cristata) from a private residence following an anonymous report. The bird, which is designated as a Provincial Natural Monument in Río Negro, was found in a cage. The resident voluntarily surrendered the animal, and an infraction notice was issued regarding wildlife protection regulations.
In Santander, Colombia, the CDMB has installed motion-sensor camera traps in the Tona River basin. This technological initiative aims to monitor native species, track animal movements, and study behaviors without disturbing the natural environment. The data collected will assist biologists in creating a species inventory and developing conservation strategies for this ecosystem, which is a vital water source for Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area.
