Wildlife conservation efforts reported in Colombia and Guatemala
In Colombia, a pygmy marmoset, a vulnerable primate native to the western Amazon, has arrived in Medellín. Due to the animal's high level of habituation to humans from prolonged captivity, the Área Metropolitana has stated that immediate release into the wild could jeopardize its survival. Authorities are considering a living collection with conservation programs as an alternative.
In Guatemala, military personnel and rescuers from the Pacific Naval Base and municipal firefighters successfully released a gray fox into its natural habitat in the municipality of San José, Escuintla. The operation aimed to ensure the animal's protection and return it to a vegetated area suitable for adaptation, as part of the Army of Guatemala's commitment to wildlife conservation.
