Wildlife encounters increase as bears approach human settlements

Recent incidents in the United States and Poland highlight the increasing frequency of encounters between humans and wild bears as animals move closer to residential and tourist areas in search of food.

In Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a black bear was filmed on the porch of a vacation rental home, where it stood on its hind legs and attempted to turn door handles to gain entry. The family inside observed the animal through the windows.

In Poland, footage captured a mother bear and three cubs walking along a hiking trail in the Tatra Mountains, closely approaching tourists. Experts warn that female bears with young are particularly dangerous and advise hikers to maintain distance, avoid sudden movements, and retreat slowly if an encounter occurs.

These occurrences are attributed to the expansion of human settlements near forests and a shortage of natural food sources, leading bears to seek high-energy food in unsecured trash bins, composters, and orchards.
