Wildlife rescue and animal cruelty cases reported in Brazil

In São Pedro do Ivaí, police and local residents collaborated to rescue a porcupine found wandering on a public street. The animal had been attacked by domestic animals and was at risk of being hit by vehicles in heavy traffic. Following guidance from the 10th Military Police Battalion, the porcupine was safely transported to a forested area away from the urban perimeter to be reintegrated into its natural habitat.

In Blumenau, authorities rescued two exotic red-eared slider turtles from a restaurant following reports of animal mistreatment. Inspectors found the animals kept in a small, dirty aquarium with inadequate filtration and significant algae buildup. The owner, who lacked the necessary permits to keep these non-native species, was taken to the police station and faces charges for animal cruelty and the irregular possession of wildlife.
