Wildlife rescue efforts reported in Colombia and Argentina
In Colombia, the environmental authority Cornare is rehabilitating a white-tailed eagle and a black vulture after they were injured by shotgun pellets in the Oriente Antioqueño region. The eagle was rescued in El Retiro with a fractured wing, while the vulture was found in Rionegro suffering from dehydration and chest injuries. Cornare reported that five birds have been treated for firearm-related injuries in the last year across municipalities including El Retiro, Rionegro, San Rafael, and San Vicente.
In Argentina, an aguará guazú was rescued after being spotted running through the streets of Villa Santa Rosa, Córdoba. Local police and municipal staff contained the animal, which was then transferred to the Tatú Carrera wildlife center in the Punilla Valley. The animal will remain in quarantine and under observation before being reintroduced to its natural habitat.
