Wildlife rescuers perform successful snake rescues in Malta and Australia

In Malta, the Nature Trust Malta Wildlife Rescue Team successfully retrieved an Algerian whip snake from the bottom of a well in Pietà. The Algerian whip snake is one of Malta’s four native snake species and is considered one of the rarest to encounter. Rescuers noted that while such reptiles can inspire fear, they are vital to maintaining local ecosystem balance and are legally protected under Maltese law.

In Australia, a resident on the Sunshine Coast reported an injured carpet python via a wildlife hotline. A rescuer from WILVOS secured the non-venomous snake and transported it to the Eumundi Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for specialist treatment. Carpet pythons are common in the region, often found in bushland or residential areas, and can reach lengths of up to three meters.
