Wildlife rescues: Porcupine released in Mexico and eagle chick returned to nest in Colombia

In separate wildlife conservation efforts, animals were rescued and returned to their natural habitats in Mexico and Colombia.

In Santa Gertrudis, a porcupine was rescued from a residence after being reported to Civil Protection and Firefighters. The animal was moved to an ecology area and subsequently released into a forested zone to prevent it from being harmed due to local superstitions. Porcupines often enter residential areas in search of food and shelter, particularly during seasons when forest fruits are abundant.

In San Agustín, Huila, a mountain crested eagle chick was successfully returned to its nest after falling more than 30 meters. The fall occurred when a troop of uakari monkeys disturbed the nest. The chick was rescued by the Respira Macizo community monitoring group and treated by the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Alto Magdalena (CAM). Following nine days of medical care and assisted feeding for minor wing injuries, veterinarians confirmed the bird was healthy enough to be returned to its nest.
