Wildpark Johannismühle: Girl injured in wolf attack

An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured in a wolf attack at the Wildpark Johannismühle in Brandenburg, Germany, on the morning of October 28, 2026. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM, prior to the park's regular opening hours, during a scheduled “animal keeper day” program where children accompany staff in their daily tasks.

According to the Teltow-Fläming district administration, the attack took place in the polar wolf enclosure while the animals were being watered. The girl sustained severe head injuries and was transported by rescue helicopter to the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin-Marzahn. A zookeeper's rapid intervention reportedly prevented two other children present at the scene from being harmed.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack and whether negligence played a role. While initial reports suggested wolves were responsible, authorities have been working to confirm the exact species involved. The Wildpark Johannismühle has closed its gates indefinitely and will remain shut until cleared by the relevant authorities. Local officials have announced a comprehensive review of the park's safety measures and operational procedures, alongside an animal welfare inspection.
