Wilhelmsburg politicians push for new outdoor swimming pool

Local politicians in Hamburg's Wilhelmsburg district are pushing for the development of a proper outdoor swimming pool to serve the growing population of families and children. The proposal, sparked by a citizen's suggestion, involves potentially expanding the existing Inselpark swimming hall with an outdoor pool to provide better learning environments for children and relief during increasingly hot summers.

While the regional committee for Wilhelmsburg, Veddel, and Kleiner Grasbrook has unanimously supported the initiative, implementation faces hurdles. The environmental authority is currently reviewing the request, but formal discussions with Bäderland, the municipal bathing operator, have not yet taken place. Bäderland has expressed caution, noting that they are currently evaluating natural areas across the entirety of Hamburg for potential new pool sites and citing that the Inselpark facility was only opened in 2013.
