Wilkin Martínez calls for end to dog abandonment in Santo Domingo

In observance of World Animal Day on October 4, Councilman Wilkin Martínez has issued a call to action to prevent the abandonment of dogs in the streets of the National District in Santo Domingo.

Martínez emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership as outlined in Law No. 248-12 regarding Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership. He noted that the abandonment and mistreatment of animals pose risks to both public health and community coexistence. To combat these issues, Martínez expressed support for campaigns involving the use of microchips to identify pets and their owners, which could assist in cases of loss or criminal abandonment.

The councilman stressed the need for continuous efforts to address the situation of street animals rather than one-off operations, joining a similar campaign led by municipal legislator Manuel García.
