Wilko Johnson biographical play announces national tour
The biographical play ‘Wilko: Love and Death and Rock ‘n’ Roll’ is embarking on a national tour. Written by Jonathan Maitland, the production explores the life of Dr Feelgood co-founder Wilko Johnson, tracing his influence on the punk movement, his work with Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and his acting role in ‘Game of Thrones’.
The play highlights Johnson’s resilience following a 2012 terminal cancer diagnosis, where he was initially given one year to live. The production blends live music with storytelling, utilizing Johnson’s own words to depict his career and personal journey.
Johnson Willis returns to the title role for the tour, joined by Georgina Field, Jon House, David John, and Lara Lemon. The production has previously appeared at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, Southwark Playhouse, and Leicester Square Theatre, and is scheduled for performances at venues such as the York Theatre Royal.
