Brisbane Lions secure AFL three-peat with dramatic comeback win over Fremantle

The Brisbane Lions secured their third consecutive AFL premiership with a dramatic seven-point comeback victory over the Fremantle Dockers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In front of a crowd of 100,023, the Lions overturned a 17-point deficit in the final minutes, scoring four goals in the closing stages to win 96 to 89.

Key contributors for Brisbane included forwards Logan Morris and Charlie Cameron, who combined for six goals, and midfielder Will Ashcroft, who recorded 31 disposals. Fremantle’s Shai Bolton was awarded the Norm Smith Medal, becoming the first player in 21 years to win the honor while playing for the losing side.

Fremantle, who led for much of the match, faced heartbreak after a late collapse. Despite strong performances from Caleb Serong and Patrick Voss, the Dockers could not hold their lead. Brisbane coach Chris Fagan acknowledged that Fremantle “deserved to win” for much of the game but praised his team’s resilience in securing the historic three-peat.
