Will Pucovski launches legal action against Brighton Grammar School

Former Australian Test cricketer Will Pucovski has launched legal action in the Victorian Supreme Court against Brighton Grammar School. The lawsuit alleges the school breached its duty of care following a football training incident in 2014 that resulted in a severe concussion.

Pucovski, who retired from professional cricket last year at age 27, claims this incident was the first of 13 documented concussions that ultimately forced his premature retirement. His management confirmed the statement of claim was lodged on Tuesday. Pucovski previously noted that after being knocked unconscious during the 2014 training session, he was asked by a coach if he wanted to continue training.

Represented by class action lawyer Peter Gordon, Pucovski’s retirement followed recommendations from a medical panel including experts from Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria. Brighton Grammar School has declined to comment while the matter is before the courts.
