Will Smith declines heavy acting roles to protect family energy

Willow Smith revealed during an appearance on Kid Cudi’s ‘Big Bro’ podcast that her father, Will Smith, has declined specific acting roles to protect his family’s emotional well-being. She explained that the actor avoids projects with an energy that is too heavy to bring back into the home environment.

Willow noted that actors often have to fully embody intense characters, which can make it difficult to detach from the role once filming concludes. This approach to project selection aligns with Smith’s past reflections on the emotional burdens of acting; in his 2021 memoir, he discussed how method acting during his role in ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ impacted his personal life.

Smith has famously passed on several major blockbuster projects, including ‘The Matrix’, ‘Inception’, and ‘Django Unchained’, citing various reasons for his decisions.
