Will Smith nears return for Los Angeles Dodgers

Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Smith may begin a rehab assignment soon, with the goal of having him activated by early to mid-September. Roberts emphasized that Smith needs to regain his strength and leg stability before returning to major league games, noting that the catcher is expected to be ready for the postseason.

Smith's absence has impacted the team's lineup and pitching management. Before the injury, he was hitting .249 with six home runs. The team has also faced challenges with backup catcher Dalton Rushing, who is currently managing a partially torn UCL in his throwing arm and has opted for rest over surgery.
