Will Venable named Sporting News American League Manager of the Year

Will Venable Chicago White Sox Sporting News American League Manager of the Year MLB

Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable has been named the American League Manager of the Year by Sporting News, based on a vote by his peers. The 43-year-old led the White Sox to an 84-78 record during the 2026 season, marking his second year as manager.

The White Sox secured a postseason berth, their first since 2021, after sweeping Houston in the American League Wild Card Series before losing to Cleveland in five games during the Division Series. The 2026 campaign saw the team lead the American League Central for 96 days.

Venable becomes only the third MLB manager since 1901 to oversee improvements of 19 or more wins in consecutive seasons, joining Hall of Famers Miller Huggins and John McGraw. The White Sox also became the first team in MLB history to reach the postseason after losing 100 or more games in each of the two preceding seasons.
