Will Zalatoris to miss 2027 season following spinal surgery

Will Zalatoris PGA Tour spinal fusion surgery back injury Austin Championship

Professional golfer Will Zalatoris has announced that he is expected to miss the entire 2027 PGA Tour season due to a scheduled spinal-fusion surgery. The 30-year-old revealed the news during media day for the upcoming Austin Championship, stating that the procedure is intended to address long-term issues.

This will mark Zalatoris’ third major back procedure, following a microdiscectomy in 2023 and an artificial disc replacement in 2025. He noted that the decision was made after consulting with Tour physical therapists. Zalatoris plans to compete in the Austin Championship from November 12-15 before undergoing the surgery in late November.

After a difficult period of injury, including a torn right hip labrum that ended his recent season, Zalatoris expressed hope for a return to professional golf in 2028, potentially via the PGA Tour’s Challenger Series.
