Willebroek implements road safety and cycling infrastructure upgrades

Infrastructure projects are underway in Willebroek to improve road safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

At the intersection of Parklaan and Moerlandstraat, works are scheduled to begin on September 14. The project involves removing the turning lane from Parklaan to Moerlandstraat to shorten pedestrian crossing distances and create more space for cyclists. The Moerlandstraat will receive a safer bicycle path and renewed sidewalks, while new traffic light settings will allow for conflict-free crossings. The project will be executed in four phases through November 20.

Additionally, new traffic lights have been installed at the intersection of Boomsesteenweg and Hoeikensstraat to address a history of serious accidents. This intersection serves as a key route for cyclists between Willebroek and Boom. The new lights provide cyclists with dedicated green lights while motorized traffic is stopped. Further improvements include speed limit adjustments and the planned construction of a detached bicycle path along the N177 to complete the F28 cycle highway.
