Willem Dafoe praises Robert Eggers’ upcoming film Werwulf

Actor Willem Dafoe has shared his initial reactions to the final cut of Werwulf, the upcoming medieval horror film directed by Robert Eggers. Dafoe, who plays an old hunter, described the project as “dark,” “unnerving,” “impressive,” and “beautiful.”

Dafoe emphasized that the film departs from traditional werewolf tropes and familiar horror patterns, advising audiences not to let the title dictate their expectations. He noted that Eggers continues to improve his ability to create immersive, complete historical worlds, similar to his previous works like The Witch and The Lighthouse.

Set in 14th-century England, Werwulf is written with historically accurate Middle English. The film features a cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Ralph Ineson. Focus Features has scheduled the U.S. theatrical release for December 25, 2026.
