Willem II dismisses head coach John Stegeman

Willem II has officially dismissed head coach John Stegeman following a difficult start to the Eredivisie season. The club reported that players and staff were informed of his departure on Tuesday.

Stegeman, who previously served as an assistant at Royal Antwerp FC, led Willem II to promotion via the play-offs last season. However, the club currently sits at the bottom of the Eredivisie, having secured only two points from nine matches. The team holds the league's lowest scoring record with nine goals and the highest number of goals conceded with 26.

In a club statement, Willem II noted that after a careful evaluation, they saw “insufficient perspective to continue the collaboration.” The club expressed gratitude to Stegeman for his commitment and cooperation.

Adrie Koster, 71, will take over as interim head coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement. Koster, who has previously managed Willem II and several other Dutch and international clubs, was already serving as a technical advisor for the team.
