Willi Ostermann Gesellschaft announces 150th anniversary jubilee

The Willi Ostermann Gesellschaft has announced an extensive jubilee program to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the composer, lyricist, and singer Willi Ostermann, beginning October 1, 2026. The celebrations will span through August 2027 and include a variety of events such as a gala at the Wolkenburg, a matinee at the Cologne Philharmonie, and the presentation of the Willi Ostermann Medal.

To honor his legacy, the society is releasing a new biography and a CD, alongside public readings. The program also incorporates social engagement, including an advent dinner for the homeless. Ralf Schlegelmilch, president of the society, noted that Ostermann’s songs, such as ‘Heimweh nach Köln’, remain culturally significant to the city of Cologne.
