William B. Gould IV Publishes Memoir Detailing Labor Law Career and Baseball History

Labor lawyer and Stanford Law School emeritus professor William B. Gould IV released a memoir titled *Those Who Travail and Are Heavy Laden: Memoir of a Labor Lawyer* in late 2025. The book recounts his extensive career, including his appointment by President Bill Clinton as chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, his involvement in ending the 1990s baseball strike, and his work on job discrimination against Black workers in labor unions, sports labor relations, and globalization.

Gould interweaves personal narrative, describing his family background, his wife Hilda, and their three sons, as well as his father's pioneering radar research and assistance in tracking the Soviet satellite Sputnik. The memoir also recalls encounters with notable figures such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and President John F. Kennedy.
