William Bøving joins 1. FC Nürnberg on loan from Mainz 05

1. FC Nürnberg has announced the signing of Danish attacker William Bøving on a season-long loan from Mainz 05. The 23-year-old move is intended to provide more regular playing time for the versatile forward in the 2. Bundesliga.

The loan agreement for the 2026/27 campaign does not include an option for Nürnberg to purchase the player. Bøving is expected to return to Mainz next summer. Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert stated that while the club believes Bøving has developed positively, competition for attacking and No. 8 positions made regular starts difficult to guarantee.

Bøving, valued at approximately €3.5 million, brings international experience from competitions such as the Europa League and Champions League. He previously enjoyed a successful period at Sturm Graz, recording 11 goals and eight assists in 30 league matches during the 2023/24 season. At Nürnberg, he is expected to offer tactical flexibility, capable of playing in multiple offensive positions while contributing to high-pressure defensive work.
