William H. Macy discusses reluctance to direct films

Actor William H. Macy has expressed a lack of desire to direct films in the future, citing the intense difficulties associated with independent film production. In a recent interview regarding his new neo-Western crime thriller, ‘The Deputy’, Macy described the process of directing indie films as a struggle against limited time and budgets.

Macy noted that while the preparation phase allows for the creation of a beautiful structure, the reality of shooting often involves trying to salvage a project when resources run low. Despite these challenges, he acknowledged the genuine spirit and enthusiasm of crews working toward a shared artistic goal.

Macy stars as Sheriff Krueger in ‘The Deputy’, which is currently in theaters. The film features a cast including Tiffany Haddish, Duke Nicholson, Stephen Dorff, Julia Fox, and Billie Lourd. The plot follows a young deputy in a small town who uncovers long-standing local corruption after a corpse he was assigned to guard vanishes.
