William Lawrence faces scrutiny over deleted social media posts

Democratic congressional nominee William Lawrence is facing scrutiny regarding deleted social media posts from several years ago. The posts, made while Lawrence was a progressive activist and co-founder of the Sunrise Movement, included support for abolishing or defunding police departments and prisons, advocating for open migration, and proposing the abolition of the U.S. Senate.

Some of the content was highly inflammatory, including lyrics posted in 2021 that used profanity toward political opponents and told critics to ‘hurry up and die.’ The posts also criticized moderate Democrats and questioned the traditional nuclear family.

Lawrence has since attempted to distance himself from these views, stating that he no longer holds those positions. He noted that he does not currently support open borders or defunding the police, remarking, ‘Like many millennials, I’ve done a lot of thinking out loud on the internet.’
