William & Mary defeats Delaware State 22-15 in home opener
The No. 17 ranked William & Mary football team defeated Delaware State 22-15 in its home opener at Zable Stadium. The Tribe (2-0) established an early 16-0 lead in the first quarter, driven by two touchdown runs from Andrew King and a field goal from Max Lipinski.
William & Mary's defense was a decisive factor, forcing six total turnovers, including three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Kicker Max Lipinski contributed significantly with three field goals, including a career-long 51-yard kick that extended the lead to 22-0 in the fourth quarter.
Delaware State (1-1) attempted a late comeback in the final quarter. Quarterback Noah Brannock scored two rushing touchdowns, cutting the deficit to seven points. However, the Tribe defense secured the win with a final pass breakup in the closing minute of the game.
