William Saliba injury recovery impacts Arsenal transfer plans

Arsenal defender William Saliba is nearing a return to competitive action following a long-term back injury sustained during the 2026 World Cup semi-final against Spain. The French international has been sidelined for the start of the season, but his rehabilitation is reportedly progressing faster than initially anticipated.

Due to Saliba’s imminent recovery, Arsenal is expected to alter its January transfer plans. The club had previously considered signing a new central defender during the winter window to bolster their options, but they are now unlikely to pursue defensive reinforcements, opting instead to rely on their current squad, which includes Ezri Konsa.

While there is speculation regarding a potential return for the Champions League match against Bayern Munich on 21 October, Arsenal management is reportedly prioritizing caution. The club aims to ease him back into match fitness, with a potential return to the lineup targeted for November.
