William Turner painting on display in Rome ahead of London auction
A significant landscape painting by British artist William Turner, titled ‘Rome, From Mount Aventine’, is being exhibited in Rome ahead of an upcoming auction in London. The work, which dates back to 1836, depicts a panoramic view of Rome from the Aventine Hill with the Tiber River in the background.
Sotheby’s has displayed the piece at Palazzo Rondinini for a three-day public viewing. The painting is expected to fetch approximately 50 million euros at the auction scheduled for December 9, which would set a record price for the artist. Sotheby’s describes the work as one of Turner’s most important paintings still held in private hands.
