William Zepeda Wins WBC Lightweight Title in Las Vegas

Mexican boxer William “Camarón” Zepeda captured the vacant WBC lightweight championship by defeating Lamont Roach Jr. via unanimous decision at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The judges scored the bout 118‑110, 117‑111 and 117‑111 in Zepeda’s favour, improving his record to 34‑1 with 27 knockouts.

The victory ends a 14‑year drought for a Mexican lightweight world champion and adds to Mexico’s tally of six active world champions across the major sanctioning bodies. Zepeda, who previously suffered his only loss to Shakur Stevenson, said the year away from competition helped his preparation and reiterated his goal of becoming the undisputed champion of the division.
