Williams F1 team cites infrastructure and data gaps for 2026 car woes

Williams team director James Vowles said the 2026 Formula 1 car project has been hampered by inadequate facilities, limited technical infrastructure and a shortage of reliable design data. The FW48 arrived overweight and aerodynamically inefficient, performing poorly in pre‑season testing in Bahrain after delays.

Vowles compared Williams’ situation with Mercedes, noting that Mercedes benefits from a decade‑long data base and established supplier relationships, whereas Williams has only a few years of data and struggled to attract specialised staff under the budget cap. He acknowledged that rebuilding organisational processes and supplier networks will take time and investment, but sees the crisis as an opportunity for a deep transformation of the team.
