Williams Formula One team endures frustrating Barcelona GP with no points

Williams struggled throughout the Spanish Grand Prix weekend at Barcelona. Both drivers failed to score: Carlos Sainz finished 12th while Alexander Albon retired after an early pit stop to fix a camera issue, finishing well behind the leaders. The team also received a double fine for a start‑procedure breach.

In qualifying, Sainz qualified 16th after exhausting all of his new soft tyres in Q1, leaving none for Q2. He explained that the tyre degradation on the hot circuit forced the team to prioritise reaching Q2, saying, “We used all the soft tyres in Q1 and could not improve our position.” Both drivers reported tyre wear and handling problems, attributing the poor performance to the car’s weakness on this circuit.

Team boss highlighted the need to understand why the Barcelona layout exposes their weaknesses and to resolve fundamental issues before the next race in Austria.
