Williams Minh Hoàng rises to prominence with Vietnam national team
Williams Minh Hoàng, a 19-year-old striker of British and Vietnamese descent, has emerged as a key figure for the Vietnam national football team following his debut in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 against the Philippines.
Minh Hoàng, who was born in Manchester, revealed that England captain Harry Kane encouraged him to play for his Vietnamese heritage, describing it as a potential turning point for his career. Before joining the national team, the 1.9m tall striker played for Cong An TP. HCM, where he contributed significantly to their National Cup victory.
His rise to prominence comes at a critical time for the squad. Following a thigh injury to striker Xuân Son, which forced him out of the ASEAN Cup, head coach Kim Sang-sik is increasingly relying on Minh Hoàng to fill the offensive void. Commentators have noted his versatility and physical presence, though they suggest he must continue to refine his tactical positioning and stamina.
