Williams Racing Principal James Vowles targets technical and organizational overhaul

Williams Racing Team Principal James Vowles has addressed the team's recent performance struggles, stating that the responsibility for poor results does not lie with drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, but with the car's lack of pace. Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Vowles noted that the FW48 lacks the necessary speed to compete consistently for points, particularly on circuits where overtaking is difficult.

Vowles emphasized that the team must provide a more competitive vehicle to prevent drivers from becoming trapped in traffic or involved in incidents. To address these issues, Williams plans to introduce an upgrade package in Baku, though Vowles cautioned that these parts are intended for progressive improvement rather than an immediate transformation.

Beyond immediate technical fixes, Vowles is pursuing a radical organizational overhaul. He stated that the team is questioning its entire operational structure to avoid repeating the same methods used over the last 15 years. This includes a commitment to true innovation in chassis design, simulation, and manufacturing processes to ensure the team can meet its long-term goals for the 2026 regulations.
