Williams Racing seeks performance recovery through experimentation and structural changes

Williams Racing driver Carlos Sainz has proposed using the upcoming races in Monza and Madrid as experimental laboratories to address the performance decline of the FW48. Sainz noted that the team has faced consistent performance issues over the last five races, exacerbated by a lack of consistency between car components, which has hindered engineers from finding stable configurations.

While Williams plans to introduce a major concept change upgrade in Baku, Sainz suggests the team should test ideas “outside of our comfort zone” during the intervening races rather than simply attempting to survive them.

To support the team's structural transformation, Williams has appointed Piers Thynne as the Director of Optimization and Planning. Formerly the Operations Director at McLaren, Thynne is tasked with leading the restructuring of the team's production processes. Team Principal James Vowles highlighted Thynne's expertise in championship-winning environments as a key asset in accelerating production and development to overcome previous organizational inefficiencies.
