Willian Ramos Silveira recaptured after prison escape
Willian Ramos Silveira, a high-risk inmate and leader of the ‘Bala na Cara’ faction, has been recaptured in Cachoeirinha after escaping from the Charqueadas State Modulated Penitentiary (PMEC) in May.
Investigations revealed that Silveira escaped through the prison's main entrance on May 21 using a falsified release warrant. The escape was facilitated by internal corruption; a prison officer allegedly used stolen credentials to manipulate the Penitentiary Information System (Infopen), creating fake records of hospital transfers and gallery moves to hide the inmate's absence. The disappearance was only discovered on June 1.
During his recapture by the Military Police in the Distrito Industrial neighborhood, authorities seized a rifle, ammunition, cell phones, and cash. Silveira is currently serving a sentence of over 30 years for murder. Several prison officers have been implicated in the scheme, including one held in preventive detention for allegedly forging the documents.
