IndiGo announced that former IATA Director General Willie Walsh assumed the role of chief executive officer on 3 August 2026, following the company's earlier announcement of his appointment on 31 March 2026. Walsh brings more than four decades of aviation experience, having previously led Aer Lingus, British Airways (2005‑2011), International Airlines Group (2011‑2020) and the International Air Transport Association.

As CEO, Walsh will oversee IndiGo’s overall management and strategic direction, with a focus on accelerating global expansion, improving operational performance, strengthening network and commercial strategy, and enhancing customer experience. IndiGo, which commands roughly 66 % of India’s domestic market and recently reported a net loss of Rs 237.6 crore in Q1 FY27, is also planning to introduce wide‑body A350‑900 aircraft from early 2028. Shares of its parent, Interglobe Aviation Ltd, rose to Rs 5,381 on the NSE after the appointment. The leadership change follows the departure of former CEO Pieter Elbers after operational disruptions in December 2025.
