Willog monitors cargo safety via IoT on Northern Sea Route voyage

Willog, an AIoT-based supply chain intelligence solution provider, is conducting real-time cargo safety monitoring during PanStar Group’s first commercial voyage via the Northern Sea Route. By equipping cargo with IoT devices, the company is collecting multidimensional environmental data, including temperature, humidity, shock, and tilt, to mitigate risks associated with icebergs and extreme Arctic temperature fluctuations.

The Northern Sea Route offers a significant logistical advantage, reducing travel distance by approximately 7,000km and transit time by over 30% compared to the Suez Canal route. However, challenges such as ice collisions and lack of communication infrastructure have historically limited its commercial use.

Following its departure from Busan on August 22, the vessel is scheduled to visit Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Gdansk before returning to Busan around October 5. Willog plans to analyze the collected data to develop cargo suitability matrices and recommendations for packaging, loading, and insurance, providing a data-driven foundation for companies to integrate the Arctic route into their global supply chains.
