Boston Red Sox place Willson Contreras on 10-day injured list

The Boston Red Sox have placed first baseman Willson Contreras on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Contreras, who leads the team in home runs (26) and RBIs (79), has been managing the injury for approximately a month. To fill his spot on the active roster, the team has recalled Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester.

In addition to the roster shuffle, the Red Sox are managing other personnel updates. Pitcher Sonny Gray’s scheduled start has been moved to Saturday to allow for rest, and pitcher Tanner Houck is preparing for a “bridge league game” in Fort Myers as part of his recovery from elbow surgery. The team is also looking toward roster expansion, with veteran utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa expected to join the squad.

During a recent game against the Seattle Mariners, home plate umpire Will Little was forced to exit the game after being struck in the neck guard by a foul ball. Second-base umpire Ryan Wills took over duties behind the plate for the remainder of the contest.
