Wilmar Paredes joins Colombia's cycling team for 2026 World Championships

Wilmar Paredes has been called up to the Colombian national cycling team for the 2026 Road World Championships in Montreal, replacing Egan Bernal. The Colombian Cycling Federation confirmed that Bernal is unable to compete due to muscle overload, which prevents him from reaching optimal physical condition for the event.

National selector David Vargas selected Paredes following a strong 2026 season. Paredes notably won four stages during the Vuelta a Colombia and has secured titles at the Vuelta a Sao Paulo, Clásica de Azuero, and the Tour de Beauce.

The championship is scheduled to take place from September 20 to 27 in Montreal. Alongside Paredes, the Colombian elite squad will include Nairo Quintana, Walter Vargas, Harold Tejada, Sergio Higuita, Santiago Buitrago, and Brandon Rivera.
