Wilrijk and Leuven host summer festivals and food markets in August
The district of Wilrijk in Belgium will hold its 133rd yearly market on 9‑10 August. The two‑day event at the Bist includes music performances by Juicy Jane, Marc Fransen and DJ Ambix, a traditional veetentoonstelling, old‑timer displays, a cycling Derny race and a fireworks finale. District councilor Xeno Wauters said the market is “one of the summer highlights” that brings neighbours together.
Meanwhile, Leuven will stage the one‑day “Hapje‑Tapje” culinary parcours on 2 August. The event turns the city centre into a food village with about 50 food and drink stalls, a beer market on the Oude Markt featuring over a hundred specialty beers, a barmannenrace, and musical entertainment by Les Truttes. Bert Cornillie, Leuven’s schepen for culture and events, highlighted the variety of flavours and the community atmosphere.
Both festivals aim to attract thousands of visitors, showcase local culture and cuisine, and provide a festive summer atmosphere in their respective districts.
