Wilson Jeudy faces scrutiny over refusal to resign for presidential bid

Wilson Jeudy, the Mayor of Delmas and presidential candidate for the VAR party, is facing scrutiny regarding his refusal to resign from his position as an interim executive agent. This refusal appears to conflict with Article 388 of the electoral decree, which requires interim executive agents to resign if they intend to run for elective office.

The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Collectivities (MICT) issued a circular setting October 15, 2026, as the deadline for such resignations. In response, the Regroupement des jeunes pour une nouvelle Haïti (RJNH) has challenged Jeudy’s position, demanding that electoral rules be applied equally to all candidates regardless of political affiliation.

The RJNH has called upon the MICT to clarify what measures will be taken if Jeudy maintains his refusal to comply with the legal requirements. The controversy has sparked broader debates regarding the impartiality of the electoral process and whether legal standards are being applied consistently to all public officials seeking election.
