Amazonas election campaigns intensify amid poll suspension and debate clashes
As the 2026 elections approach in Amazonas, political candidates are intensifying their campaigns across the state. David Almeida and Dra. Shádia have begun a final push through the Manaus Metropolitan Region, focusing on rural production and healthcare. Meanwhile, Governor Roberto Cidade has proposed expanding the presence of the State University of Amazonas (UEA) to all municipalities and developing rare earth mineral exploration in Apuí to diversify the economy.
Election tensions have surfaced in Manaus, where a physical confrontation occurred between supporters outside a gubernatorial debate. Additionally, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-AM) suspended the release of a Quaest poll following reports of inconsistencies in the questionnaire and outdated territorial data.
In other regional news, Cleusimar Cardoso, mother of the late Djidja Cardoso, has been granted a transition to a semi-open prison regime. In Tuparetama, security concerns were raised during João Campos' visit, with local leaders noting a lack of police presence in the interior.
