Wilson Lima touts water purification project and steep crime decline in Amazonas

Wilson Lima, a pre‑candidate for the Brazilian Senate, visited the riverside communities of Catalão and Vila São Francisco in Iranduba, Amazonas, to review the “Água Boa” initiative. Launched in 2019, the project has installed 839 water‑purifying units across 60 municipalities, providing treated water to more than 273,000 residents. Each system can treat water from rivers, wells or rain‑water tanks in about four hours and is designed to last 10‑15 years, with community members trained to maintain the equipment.

Lima also cited security statistics from his 2019‑2025 administration, stating that robberies on the industrial district routes fell from 107 cases in 2018 to four in 2025 – a reduction of over 96% – thanks to technology upgrades, intelligence sharing and partnerships with local industries. He contrasted this modern approach with the earlier “Ronda no Bairro” program, calling the latter ineffective.
