Wilyer Abreu and Jake McCarthy named MLB Players of the Week

Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox and Jake McCarthy of the Colorado Rockies have been named Major League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of August 3 to August 9.

Abreu, representing the American League, recorded an OPS of 1.584, hitting three home runs and driving in nine runs to help Boston achieve a 4-1 record. This marks his second Player of the Week honor of the 2026 season.

In the National League, McCarthy earned the distinction after recording 14 hits in six games, which led the Major Leagues during that span. His performance raised his season batting average above .300.

Additionally, Milwaukee Brewers rookie Luis Lara was awarded Play of the Week for a spectacular leaping catch during extra innings on Sunday.
