Wimbledon eases phone policy and resolves player media protest

Wimbledon has relaxed its strict mobile‑device rules for the 2026 Championships, allowing spectators to watch England’s World Cup match on personal phones while still prohibiting screen displays around the courts.

The All England Club also reached a temporary agreement with leading players, ending a planned media‑access protest that threatened to limit press interviews. After talks over prize‑money distribution and player welfare, players agreed to resume normal media duties from 29 June, averting a potential boycott despite ongoing revenue‑share concerns.

The tournament, which announced a record 20% increase in total prize money to £64.2 million, will continue without live football coverage on its venues but will let fans follow the match discreetly on their devices.
