Wimbledon finals: Zverev reaches singles final as Heliövaara and Patten defend doubles title
Germany's Alexander Zverev defeated Britain's Arthur Fery 7-6(4) 6-2 6-4 to book his first Wimbledon final appearance, joining an elite group of players who have reached finals at all four Grand Slam events. Zverev, the world No.3, displayed dominant play after a tight first set.
In the men’s doubles final, Finland’s Henri Heliövaara and Great Britain's Henry Patten successfully defended their Wimbledon crown, beating Croatia’s Mate Pavić and El Salvador’s Marcelo Arévalo 7-6(4) 7-6(3). The match featured a rare rarity: no break points were recorded against the champions. The Finnish‑British pair served at a 66% first‑serve rate and won 91% of points on their first serve, while the runners‑up managed 59%.
Both finals highlighted the high level of competition at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, with Zverev seeking his first Grand Slam title and Heliövaara/Patten becoming the first men's pair since the Bryan brothers in 2011 to retain the Wimbledon doubles trophy.
