Wimbledon to reject influencer accreditation following US Open disruptions
Wimbledon has announced plans to avoid the influencer-related disruptions seen at this year’s US Open. The All England Club will not offer a dedicated accreditation category for influencers or content creators, a move intended to preserve the tournament's traditional etiquette and focus on the sport.
At the US Open, the decision to accredit nearly 100 content creators led to several match interruptions. Players, including Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff, expressed frustration over distractions caused by bright ring lights, excessive noise, and spectators filming during active play. To prevent similar issues, Wimbledon officials stated they may confiscate items like ring lights that could interfere with matches.
While some players acknowledged that social media presence can help grow the sport's audience, they emphasized the need for creators to respect the game's decorum. Wimbledon's approach prioritizes maintaining a controlled environment for athletes and spectators over the rapid expansion of digital content access.
