WIN and APNU to hold talks over democratic institution representation

The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) are scheduled to hold bilateral talks on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The meeting aims to address disagreements regarding opposition representation within key democratic institutions and to foster broader cooperation among parliamentary opposition parties.

The disputes stem from disagreements over the composition of the Local Government Commission (LGC), following WIN’s submission of nominees that did not include APNU’s proposed candidates. The tension has also extended to representation on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and the leadership of the Region Ten Regional Democratic Council.

To ensure the meeting proceeds, both parties are coordinating on a venue. WIN has agreed to explore using a meeting room within the Parliament Buildings or a mutually agreed-upon private business establishment. Both parties have expressed a commitment to constructive dialogue and good faith engagement to advance the interests of the Guyanese people.
