WIN Television to switch off Channel 10 in Griffith and Leeton
Residents in Griffith, Leeton, Coleambally, and Darlington Point will lose access to Channel 10 broadcasts starting Friday, 9 October. The decision follows the expiration of a short-term agreement between WIN Television and Paramount, the parent company of Network 10.
WIN Television stated that providing Network 10 services in these markets is no longer viable due to high transmission and infrastructure costs, alongside declining advertising revenue caused by digital disruption. The broadcaster noted that these economic challenges may affect other regional Australian towns in the future.
The loss of the channel means viewers will no longer be able to watch free-to-air programming such as MasterChef, Survivor, and Deal or No Deal, as well as sporting events including Formula One and the A-League. There are concerns that if Network 10 secures future rights to the NRL or AFL, regional fans may be further disadvantaged.
