Winamp to relaunch in 2027 via Deezer partnership

Winamp is set to relaunch with a new platform in 2027 through a strategic partnership with Deezer. The collaboration will integrate local music files, internet radio, podcasts, and cloud-based libraries into a single experience. Under this white-label agreement, Deezer will provide the streaming infrastructure and music catalog, while Winamp retains ownership of the brand, the core product, and subscriber relationships.

The new service will introduce a paid subscription model, marking the first time in the software's nearly 30-year history. This new platform is intended to coexist with the classic desktop client, which currently maintains over 40 million active users worldwide. The subscription service will eventually be integrated into the classic desktop application as well.

For Deezer, the partnership is part of a strategic effort to revitalize its business sector following a decline in new subscribers and the end of a partnership with Mercado Libre. By leveraging its streaming technology for established brands like Winamp, Deezer aims to strengthen its enterprise business segment.
